Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) Testing
Excessive Hand Arm Vibration Endangers Your Employees' Health and Could Cost You Money! Tecforce has the Solution!
WHAT IS HAND ARM VIBRATION SYNDROME?
Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) is caused by excessive exposure to hand held vibrating tools. This can damage nerves, impair the circulation of blood, and damage the musculoskeletal system.
This will cause symptoms such as tingling, numbness, pain, and reduced control of the hands.
HOW BIG A HAZARD IS HAVS?
The occurrence of HAVS is common, with more than 1 million UK workers currently being exposed to vibrations that exceed the HSE action limit of 2.8m/s?. Currently there are over 300,000 workers who have reported HAVS symptoms.
HAVS is the most common work related disease assessed by the DSS, and is the most common one reported under RIDDOR.
The HSE has issued guidance (HSG88) which states that nearly 10% of workers exposed to vibration levels of 2.8m/s for 8 years will develop symptoms.
HOW IS IT TESTED?
Each tool will be individually measured and compared against the recommended 2.8m/s to provide you with a guide for duration of use.
WHO CAN CARRY OUT THESE TESTS?
Tecforce's experienced environmental team can carry out all your HAVS Testing, helping to prevent HAVS and ensuring the continuing health of your employees.
We can also advise you in line with the proposed new European Physical Agents Directives.
